      Data Support Analyst Interview

      25 Oct 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      I applied through other source.

      Interview

They reached out to me and set up an initial phone interview. During the interview I was immediately asked if I was willing to relocate (I was currently based in the suburbs) I said "eventually, yes, but for right now I expect to commute". The interviewer then harped on the fact that she thought my commute was not feasible during "inclement weather", I told her this is really not her business how I choose to get to work and purely hypothetical considering this is a first phone interview. She then proceeded to tell me they "will not consider candidates outside of a one (1) hour commute". While their application did say "Applicants must reside within commuting distance of our office" what constitutes "commuting distance" however, is subjective. I continued to say, "again this is hypothetical and my problem I am not worried about crossing this bridge until and unless I get there" while I felt her becoming hostile with me over this. This felt inappropriate and not at all what I expected based on my conversation the day before. She then told me that if I move they would like to consider me. At this point I was turned off, I am not a public servant there is no reason or law requiring me to live within certain geographical limits. The conversation was beyond surreal and quickly took a discriminatory turn so I wished her well and we said goodbye. I was really excited when they reached out to me, and incredibly disappointed that someone would call me and put words in my mouth. Speaking for me was unprofessional especially when I had a call the day before to set up the interview and that issue was addressed then. They do not offer a relocation package at this time so it was a bit of a double standard expecting me to move before I have my financial situation in order (recent graduate) but then they offer no means to do that. I was willing to pay hell for a few months crashing on couches and connecting transportation to save money IN ORDER TO RELOCATE while working at a company I actually liked - that was my choice to make, not theirs. TL/DR: If you're in the suburbs you may as well live in Wollongong. I found this to be a highly unprofessional process that wildly overstepped its boundaries.

Dear Interviewee, We are sorry to hear that you had a less than pleasant interview experience, we strive to offer the best experience we can. Our interest in our employees locations/commutes comes from the concern that we want to ensure our employees are set up to have success work-life balance. We are familiar with the fact that the further away an employee lives, the longer their commute and the more likely they are to experience delays in their commute. At the end of the day, it is absolutely at the sole discretion of the interviewee to decide what they are comfortable with, but we want our interviewees to understand that we would never expect them to give up hours of their day to make the commute in. At this time we do offer a relocation package and we have employees who work in the suburbs, some of whom have well over an hour commute each way and live over 25 miles from the office. We hope to relocate our office in the future to better accommodate those in the suburbs, as we realize they are just as important of an asset to us as those who live within the city. Having a hybrid schedule is also an option to help alleviate the need to travel. For any further feedback, please feel free to reach out to hrpayroll@enterprisepeak.com and we would be happy to address it. Thanks!

      Interview

You literally cannot get an interview unless you live 30 minutes from/in Chicago, which ironically isn't affordable on their salary. They say 30k-40k, which is hilarious given the requirements, location, hours, etc. Such a joke, don't even apply and waste your time. The "Principal" of the company emailed me, berating me for not living closer and to contact him when I move there. Yeah, hell no.

Dear Interviewee, We are sorry to hear that you had a less than desirable interview experience. We have employees who work in the suburbs, some of whom have well over an hour commute each way and live over 25 miles from the office. We hope to relocate our office in the future to better accommodate those in the suburbs, as we realize they are just as important of an asset to us as those who live within the city. Having a hybrid schedule is also an option to help alleviate the need to travel. While leaving in the city is ideal based off of our office location, it is not required. Our salary is very competitive and we encourage negotiation at the time of hire. Please feel free to contact hrpayroll@enterprisepeak.com with any further feedback. Thanks!
