      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      22 Mar 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Duo Security (Austin, TX) in Mar 2018

      Interview

I had what I'd call a culture interview, and then a coderpad technical screen. The culture one was with a manager who had interpersonal skills, but the two engineers in the tech screening seemed like it was their first time talking to someone outside of their company, and were a bit pompous. I likely wouldn't had accepted an offer if presented one for not wanting to work with them.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Write a script that finds the longest palindrome in a given string.

Thank you for taking the time to share your interview experience. I'm sorry to hear that the entire process wasn't positive for you. I welcome you to reach out to me directly at nollestad@duo.com to share more details on your interview so I can ensure we avoid this experience for other candidates in the future. Regardless, I've escalated this to our Engineering Leadership for review as its important for us to continuously evaluate and improve our interview process, and the experience we are providing for each and every candidate. Again, I'm sorry for your experience, and I hope you won't let this experience get in the way of considering Duo a potential home for you in the future.

      Interview

Conversation with recruiter through Hired.com. Conversation with Hiring Manager. Coding interview with 2 members of the hiring team. Everybody was very nice. It was actually very sad for me that they didn't pick me as I, for once in a long time, thought it was a good company and team to work with.

Receive a string array with version numbers. Identify if the first in the array is greater.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      2 Mar 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Ann Arbor, MI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Duo Security (Ann Arbor, MI) in Feb 2023

      Interview

Recruiter was amazing in coordination and keeping the candidate in the loop. They were transparent and provided whatever "excuse" the HM has given them. I had 5 rounds - 1 code review, 1 coding and 1 design, 1 behavioral with engineering leadership and another with Product Manager and Designer followed by 30 minutes of HM wrap up. All the rounds have behavioral question follow ups to your tech answers and everyone pretends to be culturally collaborative. Overall , I did well and HM said great things in the wrap up round. The next day was the day of results and they decided to pass saying that I take initiatives to improve quality which can disrupt their cultural ethos. How on earth can someone provide this lame feedback. Anyways, I moved on and decided not to interview anywhere which had "woke" red flags of fake culture fit

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. Game of life - Matrix manipulation (medium) provided optimal solution, a few follow ups 2. Design Exercise case study - API design - provided with a good solution 3. How do you manage a conflict 4. How do you manage a pushback 5. How do you prioritize tasks 6. How do you handle conflicts with your manager 7. A time you took risk and failed 8. How do you manage your personal relationships with a co worker ... etc etc...

Thank you for taking the time to share your interview experience in detail. We are glad that you found the recruiter’s communication to be transparent. That’s exactly what our recruiting team strives for. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding with the delivery of feedback. The values we share internally include learning together and inclusivity. We take your feedback seriously and wish you the best in your search!

      Interview

Coding challenges, system design, behavioral questions. It had a good amount of depth without being overly difficult. No trickery, gotchas etc. I got clear feedback from each session. For a large company (Cisco) the process moved quickly.
