Research Interest, Resume, Meet with the faculty you wanna work with. I was a Duke alumni, I was referred by my advisor. Have the OPT and EAD card issued before starting to work.
Email the professor, have a conversation. Then they will usually ask about your relevant classes and determine if you are a good fit. Usually strong interest will get the job.

Interview
It was a quick 60 minute chat with a behavioural interview followed by a technical round related to research writing. The interviewer was warm and friendly. It was conducted online via Zoom and we worked collaboratively on a google doc to look at my writing and research process.
