      Software Engineer Interview

      6 Mar 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Dstillery (New York, NY) in Feb 2018

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter on linked in and was told that dstillery was looking for a senior software engineer. I told them I am junior level but would like to try and was told by the recruiter that he'll toss my resume in anyhow. I got contacted by one of the senior engineers in dstillery and set up an interview that lasted an hour. I was questioned about the work I had on my resume regarding why I used what I used in the project. After my explanations, when my ways don't seem optimal, I was asked what I would have done differently. I thought it was a very informative and engaging interview and really helped me learn what I should focus on in the future. After the technical part of the interview, the interviewer told me that they will not be progressing with me because they wanted someone in a more senior role with more experience and actually explained to me what those experiences are, which was nice. The interviewer also voluntarily gave me feedback on my performance and was very encouraging. I was given material that I can read into. The whole process was really nice and smooth with a great recruiter and a great interviewer. The recruiter stayed in contact with me the whole time to ensure that the process went smoothly. The interviewer was engaging and helpful.

      Question 1

What would you have done differently? What made you decide to make this design choice? How is it more efficient? What are some ways that this could've been done with this other library/tool?

      I interviewed at Dstillery

      Interview

Completed a phone interview with Dstillery which contained typical Java technical questions. Interviewer told me he'd be getting back with me in the next few days... After almost 2 weeks and a follow up email, I was notified that I was invited to an onsite interview in NYC, and HR emailed me to schedule a time. After a week and a half of complete silence, they emailed me to tell me the role had been cancelled/filled. The entire process was like pulling teeth to get information, and in the end they showed a complete lack of regard for my time. Cool company, but awful recruiting/hiring practices.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Dstillery (New York, NY) in Jun 2016

      Interview

Applied online and received a programming puzzle in my email to complete. There was not a time limit and they were flexible about how when you can send it back. The few people I was in contact with were very friendly and provided plenty of helpful feedback. I really liked the way they set up their hiring process.
