      Receptionist Interview

      10 Jul 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Jose, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Drybar (San Jose, CA) in Jul 2012

      Interview

I applied online for the receptionist position and received an email a couple days later about an audition for the receptionist position at a local hotel. That's right, an audition. It's not an interview at all. Your in a group setting and they ask you to pair up with the person next to you and get to know them in 3 or so minutes or less. Then introduce them to the group. My partner talked the whole time about herself so I got tons of information about her and she got nothing on me. They don't ask if you have experience in a salon setting or if you even have any receptionist experience either. The girls (or guys) that were the loudest and most obnoxious were asked to stay for 1:1 interviews I'm assuming because I wasn't asked to stay. I thought it was really weird how they chose certain people. For example, some of the ones that were asked to stay were the youngest and just looking for summer jobs and were either moving out of state soon or going away to college in the fall. Doesn't make sense to hire someone that isn't interested in committing to your company for at least a year. Point is, Don't bring a resume, they won't look at it. Don't expect to talk about your skills set, they don't care. Be loud and act like the life of the party and maybe you'll get a second interview.
