      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at DoorDash

      Interview

Stardard at first - manager call, case study, etc. Final rounds were bizzare - the recruiter provided actively unhelpful information and questions were incredibly specific for a generalist role (think Amazon-style "tell me about a time when..." but with no associated leadership principles)

      Question 1

Tell me about a time you growth hacked something?

I applied online. I interviewed at DoorDash (Tokyo) in Mar 2021

      Interview

Phone screen with GM Two back to back case interviews Analytics exercise Three back to back behavioral/experience interviews (was rejected after this) Final interview The interview process was overall great contrary to what other reviews say. They seem to actively take steps on feedback received to improve candidate experiences. Pros: Having talked with 5 different people excluding recruiter, everyone excpet the GM seemed engaged, interested, and well prepared. The interviewers were experienced, and the sessions themselves did not seem too formal even when time was limited (mostly 30 minute sessions). Most importantly the people were simply pleasant, and made me excited to potentially work with them. Instead of giving analytics exercise at the screening step, they moved it to after the first round of case interviews. Appreciated this as I knew I had a good chance before committing time to doing the exercise. Perhaps most important to making me feel like a valued candidate, they even scheduled a feedback session after the rejection for to answer questions and review your performance. Lastly, they were timely with follow ups, and scheduling was easy and automatic although the time zones were quite different. Cons: The GM seemed disinterested/bored and was rapid firing one question after another with a disagreeable tone both times I met with him. Felt like I was simply answering a machine's question rather than engaging with a human being. Was late 10 minutes first time, then 5 minutes second time. The analytics exercise takes time. It's kept open ended so you don't know how much time to spend on it, where to spend time (analysis vs presentation), better for them to time box it or limit the scope.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Case questions are pretty much variations of the ones you see on glassdoor. Understand three sides of the business, structure your responses, be data driven, ask clarifying questions, be prepared, demonstrate you understand and align with their cultural values. Behavioral/experience questions were more interesting: 1. Tell me a commonly held belief/practice that you disagree with and how do you act on it? 2. Describe a time you had to be scrappy 3. Describe a time there was a falsely diagnosed/misleading assumption, how did you uncover and solve it?

Senior Strategy and Operations Manager Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at DoorDash (Austin, TX) in Nov 2023

      Interview

Great phone screen with recruiter, followed by a data analysis case study, followed by two interviews (one behavioral, one case) with a peer and the hiring manager. During the case interview, the hiring manager was in a dark room, wearing a baseball cap, and had the camera angled so that I couldn't see them, which felt like I was maybe participating in a psychology experiment. Their description of the job also did not match what the recruiter told me they were looking for. The level of corporate jargon they used when describing the position was so off the charts I had to stifle a laugh.

Senior Manager - Strategy & Operations Interview

      20 Jul 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DoorDash

      Interview

Recruiter reached out to me and scheduled an intro call. Followed by time-consuming take home analytics exercise. Followed by 3 more interviews that focus on leadership, behavioral, and functional expertise (basic questions about improving delivery times based on reducing waiting times and delivery times, how to get dashers more tips). The functional expertise interviewer (which is the most important interview) was conducted by a Manager aka someone with less experience than the myself, the interviewee. That makes no sense. The questions she asked very extremely specific and awkward. She lost track of time and was unable to ask all the questions she wanted to. If a more experienced interviewer ran the interview it would have been less awkward and efficiently run. Despite everything I mentioned, I performed well and was able to answer her questions. The behavioral interviewer was rather disconnected and rapidly asked questions in a courteous manner. The leadership interview was great and seemed invested. DoorDash champions diverse backgrounds. But get this...all of my my interviewers were from Uber...not so diverse doordash. Lastly, they want to expand in pharma but don't know the difference between pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies... Anyways, I didnt hear back from them after a week so I followed up a received a rejection. I was warned about all the negatives mentioned above (lack of experienced talent, no industry specific expertise, no diversity). I was also warned about the poor culture, work life balance, & poor company outlook. And they nailed every single one. Now I understand why.

We are losing money on deliveries. How do we fix that? How do we improve delivery times? How do we improve fulfillment times?
