I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Dillard's in Sept 2008
Interview
I was introduced to the Area Sales Manager first who interviewed me and asked me a series of situational questions regarding how I would react to customers and my sales techniques. I was also asked how I would build a sale when coming into contact with a customer. After that interview I had a second interview with the head of the store, who asked me general questions about myself (nothing difficult) as well as my date of availability. They were very friendly, dress is business casual.
Not sure what to expect. When I spoke to the manager it felt very condescending and off putting. The interview was fine but they exaggerated the amount of commission associates can make and didn’t even give me a chance to agree to a job offer just assumed that I would take it. I don’t have very high hopes about how it will be working there. When I came in for my interview one associate didn’t even greet me like she did the last customer and the energy of the atmosphere just felt super dull and soulless. I need this job on my resume as a fashion business student for internships so I’ll push through but not at all optimistic about the work environment.
Standard interview, quite short (20 minutes) for the first round. Asked about past experience, sales skills, expected pay, and my future goals at the company. Interviewers were very nice and welcoming, made the experience much less intimidating!
