I recently went through the interview process at Deus Ex Machina, and I wanted to share my experience for those considering applying. The process started with a phone call from HR to set up an initial interview. The first meeting was fairly standard—just an introduction to assess if I was a potential fit. If you pass this stage, they arrange a second interview with the development team. This round focused on a mix of LeetCode-style technical problems and high-level deep learning theory questions. Next, they scheduled a third and fourth interview. In the third round, I met with the team’s manager, who asked a series of mathematical and statistical questions, as well as more in-depth NLP and machine learning topics. The difficulty level was high, and proper preparation is definitely required. The final round was similar to the third but conducted solely by the CEO. Unfortunately, I found the CEO to be quite arrogant, which left a negative impression. Overall, the HR team and developers were professional, but I believe the process could be streamlined—combining the second and third interviews would make it more efficient. Additionally, the company seems to be looking for someone with an academic-level understanding of mathematics, machine learning, and business, almost at the level of a university professor. Given the level of knowledge they expect, the offered salary (which falls within the middle range for Greece) does not reflect the expertise required, making it, in my opinion, not worth the effort. Would I recommend applying? If you're looking for a highly technical challenge and don't mind the compensation, it might be worth a shot. Otherwise, there are better opportunities elsewhere.

It consists of 5-6 stages, some of which are unnecessary and can be merged. The first one is an interview with HR where they ask classic questions. I could say that the tone is quite fake and unexpressive. Also, I didn't like some suggestions she tried to make regarding technical aspects without having the necessary knowledge. Then, there's a Python interview involving live coding through pair programming. After that, there's an ML-wise interview, followed by 2 more interviews with some higher-ups like CTOs, CEOs, etc. In summary it was a neutral experience.
