      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Deecon (London, England) in Sept 2024

      Interview

First you fill in the application form online and record some video answers. I got to the next stage which was a Teams interview with two consultants. This itself is a bit of a red flag in the industry when boutique consultancies refuse to "waste" money on HR and make consultants who have no HR/recruiting experience conduct interviews. First half of the interview was a short introduction to the company and some basic questions about my CV. The second half was a little bizarre with two short exercises. The first task was to answer " how many cups of tea do the British drink every day?" without any explanation of what the purpose of the question was so I thought "ok simple answer to a simple question" and literally googled it for them. Later I understood that this was a market sizing exercise, but I thought it was unfair of them not to share how they wanted me to approach this question. The second task was some questions about a case and they gave me a few minutes to prepare and do some research, but the company didn't exist so I don't understand what the research was supposed to be for. Overall very awkward and confusing experience.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We understand that the recruitment process can be a challenging experience, and we're sorry to hear that it didn’t meet your expectations. To clarify, we do have an HR department in place. However, our consultants are actively involved in the interview process because they have firsthand experience in the roles that our candidates are being recruited for. They offer valuable insights into what it takes to succeed as a consultant in our business. HR steps in at the latter stages of the interview process to ensure a comprehensive assessment from both a technical and cultural fit perspective. As for our graduate recruitment process, it is standard across many businesses to include tasks and various questions. These are designed to assess essential skills such as research, critical thinking, and communication, which are crucial in the consulting field. The exercises are not meant to be misleading but are intended to simulate real-world challenges that consultants face, such as market sizing and case analysis. We are currently in the final stages of our graduate recruitment, and we sincerely apologise if your experience did not meet your expectations. Your feedback will help us improve and better communicate the objectives of each stage in the future. We wish you the best of luck in your job search.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Pretty similar to the other interview reviews left on here. Initial video interview for them to basically get to know you and your motivation, as well as you finding out some more about the company. Assessment day is mainly based on powerpoint and excel tasks. It was really helpful to get the preprepared tasks to warm yourself up to the assessment day but be prepared to answer any questions related to these tasks.
