I had an initial Zoom interview with the recruitment lead to discuss the position and my experience. That interview went perfectly fine, and a second interview with the hiring manager was scheduled. She was about 15 minutes late for the interview, so I contacted the recruitment lead to see if the meeting needed rescheduling. Shortly after that email, she joined and apologized. Understandably, things happen, but she mentioned the interview was not "top of mind" for her.
A few red flags popped up during the interview:
- There was a focus on paid digital advertising, which was not mentioned in the initial job posting.
- There were no pointed questions about my experience and how it relates to the role.
- Although the role is listed as remote, the applicant must travel to the home office an undisclosed number of times (more than once a month).
- You will be given an assignment as part of the hiring process. This seems odd for an AVP-level role.
Toward the end of the interview, I was given a few minutes to ask questions. When I inquired about the frequent visits required to the home office, I was given a vague response accompanied by a short lecture on the importance of face-to-face meetings.
After the interview, I emailed the recruitment lead and hiring manager for due diligence, stating my concerns. I understood that would impact my candidacy, but I wanted to be transparent. The recruitment lead said their process is set and cannot be changed, which I fully understand. I hope this experience is helpful information for anyone else interested in this position. Best of luck!
