      Advertising Sales Associate Interview

      14 Aug 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Diego, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cox Communications (San Diego, CA) in Aug 2019

      Interview

Online application then initial phone interview with hiring associate. I was directed to call, I called at time of interview - left VM, called back 15 mins later, another VM, and left an email about 30 mins later. 2 days later I was emailed that associate had an emergency and was sorry would have another colleague set up the phone interview. I was very surprised by this as the company tagline is digital communications. My first job out of college we were able to share calendars and set up out of office replies easily. To receive nothing for 2 days was surprising to me. I was then scheduled with HR Manager for phone interview, passed, then emailed an assessment that said it should take 30 mins to hour, it took 2 hours, but I must have done well. I was then given phone interview with West Coast Sales Manager who seemed to like me and I was asked to come in for a panel interview. I was directed by HR that they would be asking STAR interview questions and there would be 5 members interviewing. I arrived early, was escorted in by security, 10 mins past interview time a Sales Manager said I was directed to the wrong floor. Initially 2 interviewers, one manager I connected with, another was really brash almost offsetting. After being told that there is a training process by the first 2 phone call interviews, in the panel interview I was asked how I would generate new business. Although the whole time I was told there is a 4-6 month long training process. I am sure Cox is not about making all cold calls, as most business and people don't have time for this in this day and age. Half way through the interview a 3rd Sales manager came into the process and had not clue of my background and had to look over colleagues shoulder to learn about me, as I also caught him up with my background. After learning I did not receive the position, I was also not happy after the interview process, made me realize this was not the place for me. Further one of the Sales Managers said this was his third time back working for the company, as this was a red flag for me, made me wonder why if the managers claimed such a good company to work for.
