I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Council on Foreign Relations (New York, NY) in Aug 2015
Interview
The first step was a brief phone call just confirming interest in the position and discussing basic qualifications. This was with the HR representative, who asked general questions (strengths/weaknesses, why this position). The next stage was a Skype interview with 3 different people--the same HR rep, a superior employee in the relevant program I was applying for, and the assistant director of the program. The interview was more in depth, discussing specific transferable skills, experience, education, personal preferences, and future goals. Together, this interview was about 1 hour and 45 minutes. After this interview, there is a skills-based test (writing, spreadsheets) and finally an interview with the program director about daily duties, responsibilities, and work style/environment.
