Interviewed via Skype with Fire department officials, Then interviewed again with fire department officials in person. Then was put through a background investigation process that to this day I question the legality of. I was asked all sorts of questions, some far past the line of appropriate for a Human Resources Personnel process. I am currently a realtor, and have passed both credit and criminal background checks. But I failed this process back in the September of 2015. The criminal investigator they used was rude, knew he had all the power in the situation and used that to his advantage by making me feel very intimidated. They questioned 20 to 30 of my friends and acquaintances. They would question a friend, and then they would ask that friend to name a person they could talk to that knew me. They asked people who did not know me well to opine on personnel issues, getting feedback from people that would know nothing about the questions they were being asked. The criminal investigator, a retired state of Oregon detective, interviewed me for 90 minutes via skype. I questioned the legality of the process at the time to myself and my close family, but I was unemployed and getting desperate for a job. They had me sign all sorts of forms excusing them of any civil or criminal wrongdoing and whatnot, but I wish I was in a better place in my life at the time to question their methods and tell them to take their job and shove it. I will never put myself through a process like that again, and to this day I would never recommend anyone apply to the Corvallis, OR Fire department. I was also required to allow them to not permit me to view any of the materials that resulted from this process.
