      Devops Engineer Interview

      5 Nov 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Contineo

      Interview

Introductory call and then interview in person. The in-office interview was a traditional one, it's rare to be asked to explain things on a whiteboard these days. Overall I will rate the interview poorly, and it comes to the lack of interviewing experience of the team performing it. It was obvious they see my CV for the first time and didn't prepare for the interview. With many years of experience I was presented with something akin to an interview for a graduate job. Instead of being asked about software design, scope of projects which I've been involved and technical problems I have solved and follow up technical questions, majority of the questions asked apart from AWS design were very basic ones you can google an answer in 15 seconds, but many experienced devs won't even bother to remember it. Weird feel of hierarchy as well, where only one interviewer asked questions. I don't know if they didn't sync on who they are looking for, but it's a waste of time for experienced engineers and I'm aware that they still didn't fill that one position for 3 months or more...

      Devops Engineer Interview

      29 Oct 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Central
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at Contineo (Central) in Aug 2023

      Interview

The initial round was a phone call with somebody from the devops team - he asked questions about certain technologies they use or plan to use, and explained how the hiring process was going to be. The second round was an in-person panel interview, where they delved deeper into what they need or use certain technologies for. I elaborated as thoughtfully as possible, as I'm experienced in IaC, automation, and CI/CD. Then... silence for 6 weeks. Apparently, the CTO couldn't prioritise hiring, despite being an urgent position to fill, nor wanted to delegate it. He ultimately provided me with feedback that I consider completely deranged and if I give him the benefit of the doubt, he might have mixed up my interview notes with somebody else's. Waste of my time and energy. The CTO couldn't even walk me out as I finished the interview and somebody had to rush to do so. When we finished the interview everyone just walked back to their desks, leaving me in the meeting room. Rude, disorganised, unprofessional.
