I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Comtech Telecommunications (Santa Clara, CA) in May 2014
Interview
I applied online and heard back within a few weeks to schedule a face to face interview. I was interviewed by two individuals in the mechanical engineering department and was asked a number of questions from fluid mechanics, heat transfer, vibrations, and electrical circuits. I was not able to answer all of the questions correctly and ended up never hearing back from the company. I would not recommend the company because they were quite demeaning and if you did not have the same terminology for a specific concept, you were looked down upon. I was shot down before I could answer 2 of the questions. I couldn't believe I was asked who the author was of my heat transfer book was. It was a very uncomfortable and uptight interview. I came away feeling like I would not have had a very good learning experience had I been hired.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I was asked to solve a fluids problem that involved bernoulli's equation, head loss in a pipe, reynold's number, moody diagram, and calculating the size of a pump given certain circumstances. I was asked about the different types of heat transfer, how they were involved in a computer, and whether laminar or turbulent flow had better heat transfer. They asked me if I remembered the equation for radiation and the name of the book I used for my heat transfer course. I was asked a question about how the natural frequency would change for a beam fixed at both ends when the stiffness increased. I was asked about filtering and transistors.
