      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Colonist

      Interview

4 rounds + trial: initial recruiter chat, technical interview, take-home challenge, founder chat, followed by a trial period and then the offer. Smooth process overall, everyone was professional and easy to talk to, nothing unexpected.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked me to walk through a piece of software I built that I am proud of, explaining how it works, the decisions I made, and the challenges I faced.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Colonist in Feb 2026

      Interview

The interview process involves a take-home assignment given in a JSFiddle link with some requirements mentioned in a PDF file. The skeletal code needs to be revamped based on the requirement to a working model. Expect the feedback to be completely vague. They will tell us to make assumptions and provide the necessary explanation, but would never really give a solid reply to any queries you ask about the assignment. Its upto you to understand the requirements on your own and make those assumptions. In the end, even if you give your hard work and give a solution which passes all the requirements, they will give a vague feedback not mentioning what exactly was missing. (In my case they said my final design was not similar to the original requirements, which i was not able to verify properly to get to know exactly what i was missing). In the end they will ghost you after this vague feedback, even if you try to get a proper feedback for the assignment. I did not learn anything from this assignment task and overall i felt it was a waste of my time and resource. At least a solid feedback about what I was missing would have helped and improved the interview experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was asked to design a grid-based button layout for the main page. The requirements mentioned were: 1. Start off from the given code in jsfiddle. 2. Use HTML5 / SCSS / Javascript 3. Do not use any external libraries 4. Make the code readable and clean as possible 5. Use the given coding style 6. Write good, scalable code 7. Optimize for good responsive UI and UX 8. Confusing parts are left to your initiative (Do whatever is necessary to make the experiment as good as possible) 9. Test will be evaluated on Chrome
