I did not apply for the position - I was sought out by one of their recruiters on LinkedIn. I had a phone screen with her, and then she scheduled me for an in-person interview the following week. The actual interview was fine, with most of the standard interview questions. I was interviewed by 2 members of the marketing team. I think it was probably clear on both ends that I wasn't exactly the fit they were seeking for that type of position, which is fine. What left me with a negative impression though was that I never received ANY follow up after the interview. I lose a lot of respect for organizations that act like you don't exist after they realize you aren't suitable for the position and don't even bother to notify you that they decided to pursue other applicants. Especially in this case, where they sought me out, and I took the time out of my schedule to prepare for and attend an interview with them, as well as send a follow up thank you letter. I think the recruiter who originally contacted me could have done a better job screening me in the first place and realized earlier that I wasn't a fit so that none of us ended up wasting our time. To me, it made the company appear unprofessional and one I would not wish to work for.
