I first had a 30 minute call with their head of talent acquisition to discuss the position, my current role and experience. The conversation was great and made me excited to proceed to the next round. The second step was a 60 minute live coding session with one of their lead engineers. He gave me a relatively simple task (with a few very minor twists), but between being nervous and rusty, I just choked and only completed about 75% of the task. Regardless, he was very kind throughout and the experience was positive. I get the feeling that as a small startup, they're very selective about who they bring on. I can tell they'd be a great company to work for. Given my performance during the second round, they were right not to proceed with me, but at no point did they make me feel bad about it.
