Initial contact thru my old manager's acquaintance with a current employee of the company. There was an initial phone interview where he told me about the job and I told him about my experience. During the interview, he asked how an item from my background, doing "entity disambiguation," could be applied to a problem faced by his company, essentially another disambiguation problem. He also said there was a programming task that he would email me, and that I could email it back to him today, or give it to him tomorrow during the in-person interview. The task was write a program to tag words of an input file with terms from an input lexicon. The next day, I met him and several other employees of the company at a hotel for an in-person interview. This interview lasted about one hour. The atmosphere was collegial. I sent a thank you note to the lead interviewer that day. Three weeks later, I got the rejection letter through email.
