Thank you for your feedback. Our candidate experience is very important to us so we’d love to hear more! For starters, we want to ensure the proper company gets your feedback. Is it possible this review was left on the wrong employer profile? It seems this review is meant for a company in Rema. Our employer dashboard says Rema is located in India which is confusing because Code.org is a US-based company with no affiliation to Rema. If this review is for Code.org , it would be helpful to understand what you found particularly positive and challenging about the interview process. Providing specific information would allow us to evaluate those aspects of our process for improvement. Thanks again for your review and your time.

      Interview

I interviewed here a while ago, so the demographics of their engineering team may have changed. I went through the 4 hour interview loop and was shocked that every single engineer I interviewed with (8 total, 2 engineers per interview) was white (I’m assuming, but if they weren’t, they were very white passing). They asked me questions like, “what does diversity mean to you?” in my last interview, and it truly felt like my answer was met with blankness/general apathy and like it was a question they just FELT like they had to ask, but didn’t actually care about. This nonprofit does not show that it cares about intersectionality if their interview panel is completely racially homogenous. Yes, representing women in tech is important, but it shows deeply concerning trends when you ONLY have white people assessing everyone you interview. I think there was only ONE nonwhite engineer I interviewed with in the initial tech screening. I just don’t know how anyone can believe that a nonprofit that supposedly wants to help all sorts of people learn to code can drive true change when they clearly don’t value diversifying racially. Increasing accessibility to learning code is not just about saying you care about it, you need to show that you care about it in who you hire, who you have to represent your cause. Do you think your panel has the perspective to hire the underrepresented minorities that do end up as developers? These are just the things I couldn’t stop wondering after my interview. Maybe it’s too hard to find nonwhite engineers, but I seriously doubt it. since I was interviewed here, I ended up going to two big 4 level tech companies that are not known for their commitment to making tech more inclusive, but I’ve felt more welcomed and seen at both of those companies interview panels than I did here. I also had way more authentic conversations with those companies’ employees about diversity than I did here. Everything just felt really off here. I would suggest paying close attention to what your interviewers say about the mission statement/diversity/ inclusion if you do end up interviewing here. Like the other reviews, they also didn’t care to update me even though they demanded multiple interviews and a four hour loop that took the whole day. I had to email them a couple times just to get an update on my application status. It was hard for me to feel a connection with the people and it wasn’t a good fit, objectively, but I’m sure there are great people here, but this is just my opinion after limited exposure to them.
