I recently applied for a role at Clive Owen LLP and initially received a very positive response from their People and Culture team. I was told my background aligned well with what they were looking for, and that they were “keen to move forward” pending only salary confirmation — which I promptly provided.
However, within a short time, I received a completely contradictory email stating that my application would not be progressing, without any clear explanation. The abrupt reversal felt unprofessional and raised serious questions about the consistency, transparency, and coordination of their recruitment process.
For an organisation with a dedicated People and Culture function, I expected far clearer communication and a more respectful candidate experience. It’s disappointing to see such mixed messages, especially when the initial engagement was encouraging and professional.
I would advise future applicants to be mindful that the process may not be as transparent or well-managed as it first appears.
