The hiring process was simple enough. Although a red flag popped up when the hiring manager was talking poorly of their current web developer during the phone interview. When I went to the interview, I was interviewed in the hiring manager’s office, while three other people were working (red flag). Never in my life have I seen such unprofessionalism. Who does that? There isn’t an empty office?
Hiring Manager reviewed my portfolio from a design perspective, while not associating that I am a developer and I make things function, not pretty! Hiring Manager asked if I had questions, of which I asked where the company sees itself in 5 years. It was currently rebranding itself (another red flag) and the Hiring Manager told me that Clever Consulting made mistakes, so they are rebranding as Acuity Digital Solutions. I was asked to critique their website, which I pointed out, in just a few minutes of perusal, glaring content mistakes and unfinished sentences. This website was LIVE!!! How did the management poke holes in my portfolio, but not use the same attention to detail, to look at their own site?
I also asked myself, if I was to be an employee here, will I have to sit in this small room with four other people? While the HR Director has a ridiculously large office the moment I walked through the door? Will I get paid on time? This whole operation looked shady and it seemed like amateur hour for management. Reading through the reviews, I can understand that lessons were not learned and I would never give these people any money as a customer.
