      Sales Interview

      3 Apr 2011
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Clayton in Apr 2009

      Interview

Applied thru Career Builder, Then a recruiter called me to follow up with the process. Then I was e-mailed a test to complete, the test had nothing to do with selling homes, it was more geared towards a mechanical engineer or computer programmer. I have taking test before that were focused more on the job at hand, this test was ridiculas. Next I had a interview with the recruiter, then the sub-zone manager, then the Zone manager. followed with a random drug test and background check. The drug test was a random phone call, then you had so many hours to get to the test facility. After the above I was offered a position within the area.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Clayton (Troutman, NC) in Mar 2017

      Interview

The first step was an email from their corporate office setting up the appointment and sending some info about the position and who I would interview with on-site. I arrived a few minutes ahead of schedule and 2 copies of my resume in my bag. I went to the admin assistant and introduced myself. She asked me to wait a few minutes for the manager. After about 15 minutes she said he was tied up and she would interview me. She then stated she had never done an interview and asked me to "bear with her, so we could get through this" I gave her a copy of my resume and she asked questions not relevant to the position. She asked about my family. We talked about the zoo. I tried to ask questions about the position and she didn't have many answers. The admin commented several times that the entire sales staff was men and it was quite a "boys club" and it would be nice to have another female in the office. After a few more minutes the manager I was supposed to meet with came out and apologized and patted me on the shoulder saying he just didn't have time today and made some comment about "you know how it is in sales" and then walked away. I have never been so dismayed and disappointed in an interview. Complete waste of time. It was the first time ever that I felt like I was passed over for being a female. That manager didn't even have the courtesy to interview me.
