it starts with an Online test for personality and competence, then has a virtual interview, then an in person interview or two or three. it can be a few weeks without hearing anything between each of these steps.
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at City of Reno in Apr 2024
Interview
Applied on GovernmentJobs.com, invited to take a skills test and personality test, then a one-way video interview. I didn't make it to the next round. The one-way video interview consisted of 5 technical questions about networking, where you record your responses into the browser. You get two tries per question.
This was one of the most humiliating, dehumanizing processes I have ever experienced in my life. I never once got to speak to a person. I usually bring a list of questions to ask during my interviews to see if I'm a good fit, but I never had the opportunity. They got all the benefits of interviewing me but couldn't be bothered to meet me face to face. All that to be scored by an AI model. I have a disability and was never given an option to opt out of the one-way interview process.
Initially, I was upset that I didn't get the job, but it made me realize I would never work for a company that can't be bothered to meet me in person.

Question 1
What is your experience with routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, etc)?
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at City of Reno (Reno, NV) in Nov 2021
Interview
It went well considering it was virtual. Everyone was very cordial and welcoming. Also multiple departments participated. Would have loved to do in person. They asked great questions too and we’re engaging.
