The company set up a video interview with me and from the very beginning, it felt like the interviewer and the company weren't genuinely interested in me as a person or my skills. I was asked silly questions like, "what's your favorite quote?" and "what's the last museum you visited?" I fail to understand how these reflect my experience or the kind of person I am. I was also asked what kind of worker I am between someone that works 80+ hour weeks and someone that keeps a more normal schedule. The interviewer told me she was the type to work 60-80 hour weeks, and I got the impression when I said I like to keep a good work/life balance, that my answer was disappointing. A minute or so in, I could tell the interviewer didn't feel like I was a good fit, and curtly told me at the end I'd hear back soon. I got a form email the next day telling me they weren't moving on with me.
I genuinely understand small company growing pains, but it costs nothing to be kind and respect the time of the interviewee. After all, Cipher Skin reached out to me to set up an interview. If they weren't genuinely interested in me or my skills, I could've saved that time for another company. I think I dodged a bullet here.
