I submitted my resume with cover letter online. About two weeks later, I received a phone call requesting an interview for two weeks in the future. The person who called to schedule the interview was an assistant in the group within which I would work. I was offered two dates/times and I selected the one that was most convenient. The first interview was a panel interview with three employees (one manager, one employee in a similar position and one HR employee). It lasted about an hour. They had a prepared set of questions and pretty much stuck to the questions, however they did ask some follow-up questions. They each took notes and their faces mostly remained neutral (one smiled often whereas another had an excellent poker face.) Toward the end of the interview, they asked me why I wanted to work here and whether I had any questions. I've learned you should always have a good answer for the "why do you want to work here" question and always be prepared with two or three questions of your own (not about salary). I had a follow-up interview with a manager about a week later. From application time to receiving an offer took about two months. The office environment depends on the department. Some departments require suits or business attire, whereas most groups are business casual and a very few groups are simply casual. Some departments allow jeans on Fridays and others are strictly no jeans. The culture is safety and team-work oriented. There is a huge emphasis on safety, even in the office space. Ergo reviews are mandatory as are classes designed to teach how to remain safe in the office environment. Computer work breaks are also required (computers force stretch and work breaks.)
