      Software Engineer III, IOS Interview

      21 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Chamberlain Group in Sept 2023

      Interview

Screening with Recruiter based in Oak Brook, IL. From the moment the interview began, I was met with an interview style that felt more like an interrogation. The recruiter, who gave off a military-like vibe, bombarded me with rapid-fire questions, leaving no room for a natural conversation. This approach made the experience not only uncomfortable but also highly unprofessional. What disturbed me the most was the recruiter's persistent insistence on discussing my past employment experiences, where I had experienced harassment, retaliation, and discrimination. I gave diplomatic answer that I was looking for a new role that aligned with my career goals better. And he kept asking why did you end your employment at XXX company. I explained again that I wanted to focus on iOS Development and he still kept asking why did you leave? Did you resign? So, I finally had to end the topic by clearly stating that "I do not think details of my previous employment is relevent to my future roles". Then only he stopped pressing me. Despite my clear discomfort and reluctance to go into detail, the recruiter continued to press me for information. This felt not only invasive but also entirely inappropriate. It's essential for interviewers to respect the boundaries and sensitivities of candidates, and in this case, that didn't happen. I believe a job interview should be an opportunity for both the candidate and the employer to evaluate each other and determine if there is a mutual fit. Unfortunately, my experience with Chamberlain Group left me with serious doubts about the company's culture and its commitment to fostering a respectful and considerate workplace environment. I strongly caution job seekers to carefully consider whether they want to engage in an interview process with a company that displays such a lack of professionalism and sensitivity. An interview should be a chance to showcase your skills and personality, not an uncomfortable interrogation session. Within seven minutes of interview ending, I emailed the recruiter that I am withdrawing my application and cited the primary reason that the screening interview felt like an interrogation rather than a friendly conversation. I hope this review provides valuable insight for others, and I sincerely hope that Chamberlain Group takes this feedback seriously and works to improve its interview process and overall company culture.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Resume screening questions relevant to position and work experience. Recruiter kept pushing me to share details on my previous employment which was a huge red flag.
