I was contacted by a Recruiter within Surge who was actively trying to find a Sr developer in my expertise. This is rare so I paid more attention than I would usually give to an out-of-the-blue recruiter. This opportunity, and Surge in general, sounded right up my alley, almost too good to be true, so I pursued the recruiter interview. This was followed a few days later by a Technical Interview. My experience was the same as described elsewhere on this site. Some personal get-to-know-you chat and a technical question with live code examples of how to approach a problem.
From Surge's sense of urgency and responsiveness it sounded like they wanted to move forward very quickly and I was ready to begin with them.
After the technical interview I was told that the tech interview went really well. That Surge is "waiting for an assignment that fits my background" and that those do come along "from time to time". And "Sometimes this happens ASAP, sometimes it takes a bit of time" and the "staffing sheet changes constantly and we remain hopeful".
My reaction to this whole process is that they seem to want to lure Sr Developers in, get them into their system, and be able to contact them should anything ever pop up. They seemed very eager at first, but once I was interested, they signed off with "we'll call you".
