I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CapTech (Richmond, VA) in May 2025
Interview
I had a very negative experience interviewing with CapTech as a New Grad Software Engineering Consultant.
My first interaction was in Fall 2024. I passed the screening round and was explicitly told that hiring would continue through Thanksgiving. However, after completing the technical round (which was before Thanksgiving), I was suddenly informed that they had already finished hiring and could not move me forward. I felt upset and misled, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe I had just applied and the fault was ultimately mine.
Then in early May, I saw the same position reposted. I reapplied and reconnected with my recruiter, who assured me that since I had already completed the screening and technical round, I would be moved directly to the final interview. I was excited and spent the following weeks preparing. Following a period of radio silence, I checked in and was reassured that scheduling was still in progress. But a couple of weeks later, I received a phone call saying that my final interview was canceled due to “changes in hiring needs.”
Based on several LinkedIn posts about the company, it was clear they had nearly or already completed hiring by the time I reapplied, and I was intentionally misled once again (I suspect I was only considered as a backup in case other hires’ offers fell through, though this was not communicated to me whatsoever).
This was the second time I had been strung along by CapTech, and it left me feeling like my time and effort weren’t respected.
I personally wouldn’t recommend applying to CapTech. Their recruiting process felt cruelly deceptive and lacked basic respect for candidates.
Thank you for interviewing with CapTech and I am sorry you didn’t have a positive experience. We pride ourselves on consistent communication and making sure we are being as transparent as possible through the interview process. Our hiring numbers can vary year to year based on both our clients' needs and our business priorities. While our recruiting team makes every effort to keep in touch with candidates who have successfully completed the interview process, sometimes additional openings do not receive final approval. We sincerely apologize for making you feel like you were strung along through the process. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any additional questions or concerns. On-campus behavioral interview, then online technical, then final power day with 2 behavioral and 1 technical. Overall interview process was great and not too easy or difficult. Interviewers were very nice and communicative.
