      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at CNA Corporation (Arlington, VA) in Nov 2025

      Interview

Held an initial interview with HR, largely covering administrative details and clarifying any questions about the position. I found this extremely helpful for the rest of the process as they laid out clearly what the job was and what I could expect. Great transparency. Second interview was virtual with the hiring manager, again mostly administrative. This also covered some substance about qualifications for the job. The third round was a day-long series of interviews, including, pannel interview with a number of managers from different divisions, a presentation of some project I've done, a case study exercise, followed by two one-on-one interviews with senior managers. The case study presents a vague challenge or research questions and the you need to walk through how you would tackle the challenge and design/implement a research project around it. The interview process is challenging, but the payoff is worth it in that everyone else around you will have been similarly vetted. You're joining an organization that is know for quality people that stay for the long-term.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at CNA Corporation (Arlington, VA) in Dec 2025

      Interview

I was asked to give an hour presentation on my dissertation topic, but in a way that would be accessible to people with no background. There were questions throughout the presentation. After that there were some one-on-one interviews mainly for me to meet people at the organization.

      Question 1

All the questions were about my research. Also, why do you want to work here, etc.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CNA Corporation (Arlington, VA) in Apr 2024

      Interview

The interview process for CNA was extremely well-organized. I received a message from a recruiter initially and then submitted my application. After about a week, I was scheduled for a recruiter screening call. Then I was given a take-home assignment to complete, for which I was given four days. About five days after I submitted the assignment, I was informed that I would have a call with the hiring manager. The hiring manager let me know at the end of our call that they would like to bring me for an on-site interview. For this on-site interview, I first gave an about hour-long research presentation. The audience included the hiring manager, two senior team members, a vice president, and a member of another team. The panel interviewers were all super engaged throughout the presentation. The one-on-one interviews were great too, with interesting and thoughtful questions and conversations. In about two and a half weeks after the on-site, I was given a verbal offer. From the initial recruiter message to my initial offer, the process took 2 months. Throughout the entire process, everyone was extremely friendly, supportive, and communicative. As a candidate, I appreciated the interview process, and it was really seamless.
