The process took 5 days. I interviewed at CEG Solutions (Arlington, VA) in Apr 2022

      Interview

The interviewers were very uninterested in getting to know me and only asked technical questions that are already on my resume. They also did not talk about the position at all or who they were and what they did in the company. I had to ask about the position at the very end. Completely unwelcoming.

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CEG Solutions (Arlington, VA) in Mar 2024

      Interview

Interview process lasted 4 week and 3 virtual rounds. The start of the process was positive - the recruiter was warm and responsive, and the first interview with the engineering team was technical and appropriately challenging. I went through 2 more interviews and observed that the company really cared about finding a mutually good fit for both the team and the candidate, as they considered and interviewed me for placement in a different role within another interconnected team. However, I ultimately received no final feedback or courtesy notice that they would not be moving forward. It felt abrupt given the open line of communication up until that point. It was surprising considering the time input on both ends.

      Energy Development Associate Interview

      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at CEG Solutions (Arlington, VA) in Jan 2020

      Interview

I had two phone calls with different people from the company and was then invited to visit their office for a full day of interviews. 8 hours, 7 interviews, 15 people. The day was going great until I got to the last round, which was 1:1 with their president. He gave me a bizarre technical interview where he refused to answer any questions and didn't seem interested in understanding how I think or solve problems. As an example, I was trying to calculate how much money the building we were in spent on lighting in a year. I asked how many floors the building had, and his response was, "I don't know, you took the elevator didn't you? You tell me." It was the total opposite of every problem-solving style technical interview I've ever had, and left a very bad taste in my mouth. Towards the end of our meeting he told me that I wasn't a particularly strong candidate, that my technical skills weren't up to par, and that my writing was so-so. This was extremely frustrating to hear after I'd been in their office for 8 hours and was pretty exhausted and worn down. Unclear as to why they brought me into the third and final round of interviews if I wasn't a strong candidate. After two phone calls, 8 hours of in-person interviews, and having met nearly every person that works for the company, I didn't receive so much as an e-mail to tell me I didn't get the position. Not even having the courtesy to send me a follow-up email after the in-person day is what assured me that this would not be a good company to work for.

Thank you for your feedback. While we are disappointed that you had a negative experience during our interview process, I would like to address several points made in your review. We notified you in March that you had not been selected for the position. As stated in the email, we did not have a position that matched your skills at that time, but recommended you stay in touch as needs are constantly changing. The technical question from our President is a standard question posed to every Associate interviewee. We use it to gauge a person's creativity in problem solving, willingness to think outside the box, and eagerness to reason through a difficult question. Our President always provides honest feedback on how a candidate performs during this part of the interview. We wish you the best in your job search, and please don't hesitate to email me if you would like to discuss further.
