Interview
HR screening clear and then 2 technical rounds.
I never had such dull and one way interview in my 12 years of career. There was a masside disintrust shown to me by the interviewer because I belong to a different ethnicity. Image you are on a call and the interviewer avoids introductions. I seriously question their hiring habbits based on existing panel. There was a huge not small huge linguistic differences.
Despite the communication hurdles, I made every effort to provide clear and concise responses to the questions asked. However, I am concerned that some of my responses might not have been fully understood due to the communication difficulties. I even suggested interviewer to type his questions on chat.
The programming task typically necessitates a two-way discussion but since we both have different hold of the language I was forming questions for him that i was suppose to answer.
Overall i feel like i dodged a bullet. This might be good for individuals who knows Mandarin. But again, your HQ are in San Jose and I feel English should be bare minimum requirement

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ByteDance in Jul 2025
Interview
I applied online and was later contacted by a recruiter from Recruitture with a few follow-up questions, which required simple yes/no responses. After that, my resume was submitted to the hiring manager. The overall interview process was quite slow — it typically took 1-2 weeks to receive any updates, including scheduling the interview.
The interview experience itself was disappointing. The interviewer did not introduce herself or provide any background about the role. She jumped straight into the technical questions and abruptly ended the interview midway without checking if I had any questions.
Two weeks later, I received a rejection without any additional feedback.

Question 1
related to testing technology, team structure, and how I added value to the team.
The interviewer introduced himself firstly, then I introduce myself. He asked several network questions, and TCP, http questions, and what will happen after I put the url link in the browser. He also asked some AB testing questions, and unit tests. Then is a coding question.
