I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Burke E Porter Machinery Company (East Grand Rapids, MI) in Aug 2012
Interview
Phone interview with 2 people, representing two of the three software teams. Then in-person interview with 3 software people. Then Skype interview with someone from the initial phone interview who couldn't make it to the in-person interview.
In-person interview was in a small room separated from the main work office. Never saw the work office (cubicles) or shop (factory attached to office where they manufacture the machinery). Got an offer via email without meeting my coworkers or seeing the work area or shop. Overall felt rushed and incomplete.

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Burke E Porter Machinery Company (Grand Rapids, MI) in Jun 2023
Interview
The interview process started with a short (15 minute) phone call with one of their recruiters. After that was a 40 minute interview with four of the lead engineers. The first phone call went very well, the recruiter seemed excited and interested in me. They were very responsive to my questions, and I felt good leaving the call. After talking with the engineers, I decided to stop pursuing the opportunity. They implied a company history of overworking their employees and having times where people are expected to work as long as it takes to get something done. Furthermore, the company uses a "Waterfall" approach to software development. This may not be an issue to others and it may make sense for the style of company they are, but it is not my preferred approach. Additionally, none of the engineers seemed very enthused to be at the interview, and weren't all that interested in me. For these primary reasons, I moved on with my job search.
