      Research Assistant Interview

      24 Jun 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Cambridge, MA
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Boston Biochem (Cambridge, MA) in Aug 2010

      Interview

I initially applied via a craigslist Ad. I was then contacted by their human resource dept via e-mail and was asked if I was interested in an interview. I agreed and we set up a time to meet. I met with the human resource manager, the product manager, and the individual I would be replacing. They explained they types of products they make and how much money the company had made over the last few years. The first two individuals were very lively and upbeat, but did not have any science background. The person I was to replace had a slightly different outlook. I found out he was leaving after less than 1 year of working, and when I asked why, he dodged the question. He then changed the topic entirely and began to ask questions like what my favorite movie was and what type of music I listen to. In the interview, I did not leave with a great sense that I wanted the job. They emailed me a week later and told me I did not get the job. I was not too disappointed. But about 2 weeks later I get a call and they retracted that statement and said they actually did want to hire me as their primary candidate had to leave the country. In all, I wish I did not take the job, but it was my first "real" job post-college,and considering we were in a recession, I was not about to be choosy.
