      Team Lead Interview

      23 Nov 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Blueground (New York, NY)

      Interview

Inefficient, shallow and redundant process. The entire process is as follows: you apply, they conduct a phone screen, you go on site for an hour, and they offer or reject. It’s about 90 minutes of interaction with the team. The phone screen was very standard- the on-site was laughable. In my particular instance, they were 15 minutes late to a 60 minute interview. My first session was with the same person who conducted the phone screen, and the questions were completely redundant to the ones I already answered on the call. The next session was meant to be two people- your prospective boss, and their boss. In my particular instance, the latter party was about 10 minutes late. The former was horrendously awkward as a person and should NOT be allowed to interview candidates if they don’t know how to build rapport, and they were also completely unprepared to interview me. The first section of questions was identical to the phone screen, which made this the third time I’ve answered the same inquiries. The remainder of the interview was spent answering behavioral/STAR questions, but the interviewer didn’t know how to position the questions to get the information they were looking for and seemed frustrated about it. For example- they asked me what a weakness of mine was and I told them “impatience” and described why. When I was done, they told me that I gave them the “interview answer” and asked me for something additional. I can’t make up weaknesses for you because you felt like I was too prepared to answer your question. Maybe next time spend a bit more time preparing to interview an experienced candidate and you’ll find ways to get more value out of the session. I was completely uninterested with the company by the time I left, and I never heard back from them. Very unprofessional. It didn’t seem like they had any interest in hiring the right sort of people, or the process would be more robust overall. I would not recommend this company. Advice to management: pick a few qualities you’d like a person in the position you’re hiring for to be known for within their role, and then plan to ask specific questions (with no overlap from other sessions) to test for those traits. Remember- you’re being interviewed too.
