      Entry Level - Marketing Interview

      7 Jul 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Blue Group (Washington, DC) in Jul 2015

      Interview

The initial interview was very brief. They set aside 50 minutes for the interview but it only takes about 15/20 minutes. There was a lot of other people interviewing with this company and their sister company at the same place, they said it was really competitive because a lot of people are interviewing but I think once people realize what the job is many decline the offer so they need to interview a lot of people in hopes that some will accept an offer. They asked questions about my resume and if I was a hard worker and what I like to do for fun. The interviewer gave a brief overview of the company and then it was over, he said I would get a call that day to let me know if I would get a second interview. The only details I was given about that was if I were to get a second interview it would be an all day interview (about 8 hours). When I directly asked what I would be doing the only response I got was very vague, they said I would be shadowing someone in the field. I did get a call back, they wanted to do the second interview right away. When I went in they introduced me to my mentor for the day in which she immediately told me to follow her. She asked me a few questions based off my resume outside and then led me to her car. She then proceeded to drive us to Montgomery County, Maryland. I tried to ask direct questions in the car about the job and the company but I was not given any direct answers. Finally when I realized that job we were doing was door-knocking I pulled my mentor aside to tell her that this is not what I had in mind and this is not the type of job I was looking for, she then pulled out the "business plan" of the company and explained in a flow chart of 4 steps that I could move up quickly and I would only have to do that for a couple months to a year. Basically it was set up like a pyramid scheme. I was not interested in the job at that point and told her I did not want to continue with the interview, when I asked to be taken back she said she could not take the time out of her day to drop me back off because she need to knock on 80 doors and that if I needed a ride back I could stay with her and door knock and she could drop me off at the end of the day around 8pm. I felt like I was mislead about what the job actually was and when I finally realized what the job entailed and that it wasn't what I was looking for they did not accommodate me at all. If they were more upfront and direct about the second interview I would have not wasted my time or theirs by going. I had to have someone pick me up, my mentor seemed surprised when I was not going to stick around and have someone come get me, which made me think that they get people to stick around by taking them somewhere they can't necessarily leave unless they had something lined up, which during that time of the day it took and hour and a half for my ride to drive from the DC area to where I was and it was inconvenient for everyone. I would not recommend this job or company to anyone unless they are looking for a door-knocking job.
