I applied for the Taiwan Office Sr. eSports Specialist role with an english resume and cover letter along with a short Chinese cover letter to cover all my bases through the Blizzard Homepage. After a month of applying, I finally heard back from Blizzard to schedule a time for phone interview. Our whole correspondence up to this point have been in english; however, the actual interview was completely in Chinese. By answering the phone with a "Hello this is XXX, thank you for taking the time to consider me as a potential hire" got an extremely confused 'huh'? then a 5-10 second awkward pause before the switch to Chinese was pretty jarring for me, as I was expecting an interview in English.
The interviewer proceeded to go through my resume with me after it became clear that she didn't read my cover letter. It also felt like they were not familiar with conducting phone interviews; I got awkward pauses when they first called, and the questions, while straight forward, sounded like she was reading off a card.
My phone interview took roughly 40 mins.
After the initial response asking to schedule the interview, they made no effort responding to follow-up emails (once after interview, and once two weeks after the initial interview) before the generic rejection letter 3 weeks later.
