I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Bleacher Report (San Francisco, CA) in May 2018
Interview
First was a phone interview with a recruiter. She asked about my experience with Android. My impression was that the recruiter was skeptical of my experience because I didn't have years of Android. She told me that she'd have the hiring manger take a look at my profile. At that point I pretty much figured I wouldn't hear back (usually companies say this when they're not interested). However, I was actually contacted again so that was a great surprise. I told the recruiter that I had deadlines and they were able to speed up the process by having me do their Android project before my phone interview. I completed it and then had a pleasant phone interview. I didn't hear back for a while so I followed up and was told that my project and interview feedback were good, but I didn't have enough experience (I would be the only Android engineer in San Fran if I understood correctly). On one hand, if I had good feedback, why didn't I move forward? Seems a little too cautious on their part.
I was very happy with how the recruiter communicated with me. Usually in these situations you never hear back or you get some generic rejection email. The recruiter called me personally and told me the news. I appreciated that and would be glad to interview again.
