I completed a profile on Alabama Works, but was told to go to a career center to complete some other step - which was an actual "application." I live out of town and plan to relocate- so wan not able yet to go to the Career Center in Birmingham. My nearby town's Career Center had no idea about any of that at all, nor did the Birmingham Career Center when I asked them if I might do the next steps over the phone. The hiring process here is VERY antiquated. They are one of the very few libraries in the entire US who require a physical before hiring a librarian. The salary is much lower than other states, also.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Birmingham Public Library (Birmingham, AL) in Feb 2018
Interview
The interview was very structured. Pre-set questions and the interviewers (2) wrote down my answers in detail. At the end of the interview there was a written portion- essentially an essay question. The interviewer set me up at a computer to write my answer. I got a job offer about 2 weeks later but unfortunately had to turn it down for personal reasons.
