      Operations Manager Interview

      15 Jul 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Bird in May 2024

      Interview

I applied online for this role. After a few weeks, I heard back from the recruiter via email and scheduled a time for a phone screen. The day of the phone screen the recruiter asked to reschedule to another day, which I said was no problem. They rescheduled the call for a full week later and then on the day of the rescheduled phone screen they canceled again. I sent in my availability again only to be ghosted this time. Extremely unprofessional and a poor experience with Bird.

      Operations Manager Interview

      6 May 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Bird (New York, NY) in Apr 2023

      Interview

The interview process started off great, but really crashed and burned towards the end. I was very disappointed because I was excited about the role, but it was clear after seeing the way Bird conducted the recruitment process for a senior management role that the company does not have its "you know what" together. First round was a 30 minute phone interview with the recruiter. Nothing too out of the ordinary here. Next I had to do a 2 hour take home test. Needed to brush up on my pivot tables and excel skills. After passing the take home test I had a 30 minute zoom call with the hiring manager. This went well and I was moved on to next steps. The next interview was 3 back to back to back interviews that were each 30 minutes long. I met with 3 people who I would be working with. I passed this interview and was again moved to next steps. The next round was a 1 hour long interview with one of the people I had spoken with in the previous round where we went a bit deeper into the data and metrics aspect of the role. 20 minutes after this interview the recruiter emailed me saying they were excited to move me to a last and final round interview with an executive in the company, and that this call would mainly be talking through culture fit. Unfortunately this is where my experience with Bird went south... In every company I have ever interviewed with that conducted an "executive culture fit interview" as the final round, this only meant one thing: that the team is prepared to extend an offer and they just need someone who is higher up to give their stamp of approval. However, the day before my scheduled call, the recruiter reached out saying there was a conflict and that they needed to reschedule. I was sent a link to fill out my availability and followed up with them to make sure this interview would be conducted within the next few days, which I was assured would happen. After a day of not hearing anything regarding a date/time to reschedule the executive interview I reached out to the recruiter again who then said that they may not be needing to conduct the executive interview after all, that the team was "working through some things", and that they would get back to me ASAP. Since this last point of contact from the recruiter it has been a few days and I still have not heard anything regarding the rescheduling of next steps for this role. This whole process was essentially a major waste of my time and energy. At one point I was very excited about the role and this opportunity, but after being cancelled and rescheduled and then basically ghosted on I decided that I will not work for a company who operates like this. I ultimately removed myself from their recruitment process despite making it all the way to a final round interview. I had been through 6 different interviews, a take home test, and had a final round scheduled and was still treated like my time didn't matter. What really sealed the deal for me was learning that Bird's stock trades at $0.13 (that's right, 13 CENTS...), they laid off 23% of their employees last summer, and that the company is in dire straits to the point that it may not even have enough funds to continue operations in the next 12 months. I ended up accepting another offer and I start that new job soon. Don't waste your time with Bird. You probably won't have a job within a year if you decide to work here.
