The Cofounder/VP of Key Accounts was not very enthusiastic about the role or the position. It seems like they have been through a lot of SAEs and he is jaded by the hiring process. I met him at a Peete's Coffee down the block rather than in the office so it was very loud and impersonal as it was on a busy street with a lot of construction going on.
The role would not only need to sell but provide account management as they are a start up and do not have supporting staff to manage the account once the sale is complete. So you would have to find the balance between selling and managing the implementation process. Despite just stepping out of a role that required the same, my candidacy was minimized and glossed over throughout the interview which was demotivating.
Overall I was very disappointed with the interview. I was taken back by the VP saying that they needed to "idiot proof" the software for sommeliers and wine directors as he was also a sommelier and so am I. This is their target customer and if this is how he describes his client base then that gives you some insight about him personally and professionally. Very negative, crass and not optimistic. I sent an email the next day passing on the position because of this, before I was declined or made an offer.
