      Sales Associate Interview

      Application

The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Best Buy in Jun 2009

      Interview

I applied online for a part-time sales associate position at Best Buy. Approximately 3 days after I filled out the online application and personality test, an assistant manager contacted me over the phone and scheduled an interview. I dressed well for my first interview (collar shirt and tie) with her and answered her questions. The questions were basic, standard questions most employers ask prospective employees (Tell us about yourself, previous work experience, situational questions). The interview was short and took no longer than 15 minutes. The interviewer informed me that Best Buy conducts a 3-interview process for everyone that applies. She indicated to me that she would give me a call to schedule my second interview when she was certain of her store manager's work schedule. I waited several days and I received no phone call. I eventually decided to call the store and get in touch with the assistant manager that had interviewed me to follow up. She apologized for not calling me and told me that she was going to be out of town for the weekend and that another person would contact me regarding the details of my second interview. I felt a little discourage at this point because I was getting the impression that they were giving me the run-around. Several days go by and I do not receive any phone calls. Finally, I get a call and I schedule my second interview with the store manager. Again, for the second interview, I dressed well and answered many of the same questions I was given during the initial interview. The store manager tells me about how the wages work and in what section of the store I would prefer to work. After the interview, he indicated to me that he would call me to schedule my third and final interview with the general manager who had the final say in the situation, and would either offer me a job or not. Approximately 1 hour after the interview, I get the call from the store manager and we schedule the third interview for the next day. For the third and final interview, I dressed well like I had in the first two. The general manager asked me several questions, both general and situational, and I handled them all smoothly, similar to the way I did in the first two interviews. The third interview with the general manager was definitely the most difficult as he asked much more questions than the previous interviewers and I was slightly a little more nervous as I really wanted the job at this point (although I did a great job of not showing this). Finally, I could see he was writing down a bunch of stuff and there was paper work for a drug test on the table so I knew I had gotten the job. He told me because of my experience he would start me off a little higher than most new hires and that I had gotten the job. After the interview, I immediately went and took my drug test. I am now waiting on the results and as soon as they come in, Best Buy is going to call me for my orientation.

      Interview

It was not too long and was a good process. They asked me about eight questions so that was not bad at all. Just make sure you act professionally and be positive throughout the process is what’s most important of all.

Applied for the job online, then immediately got an email to do a video interview within 5 days. There is no interviewer, it's just you responding to the questions on the screen as it records you. It gives you a moment to practice if you want. There are 8 questions. You have 10 seconds to read the question, then 2 minutes to respond. At least you can click the button if you want to continue, giving you time to think or take a breather before you answer the next question.
