Firstly, it took over a month to even hear back that I made it to the first-round. I was excited that I had a callback because I put so much effort into applying, but I was off put by how long it took, and it was right before Christmas. The application process took me over an hour, I had to tailor my resume, write a cover letter, and tweak my portfolio. In the initial email I received from HR, they outlined all of the steps in the hiring process. It was 4-5 steps total. I actually made it to the second round, which was a paid 4-hour performance exercise (I hate when companies require this, but since it was paid, I obliged). The exercise itself was intense and comprehensive, felt like they expected me to draft a full marketing strategy in only 4 hours (red flag), so very stressful and high-pressure. I found out I did not make it to the next round, which I am disappointed, but I also want to provide feedback.
- I don't understand requiring such a comprehensive application that already shows my skills and experience, and still expecting a performance exercise. Even though it was supposed to be paid, I feel this is such a gross way to evaluate candidates and it wastes their time, especially if you are one who was eliminated.
- I was also told they were going to move rapidly in hiring the person for this role, and it does not seem that way. It took over 2 weeks after each stage, and I can imagine the full process with take over 2 months for someone to start. In my experience, normally 3-4 weeks is a company "moving fast"...
