I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Barnes & Noble Education in Jul 2016
Interview
The interview was quite casual and straightforward and over the phone, as I was not able to be on location. Questions were the typical interview questions about your strengths and weaknesses. After the interview, I was offered a position.
I interviewed at Barnes & Noble Education (New York, NY)
Interview
The interview was calm. Straight forward questions. Managers were nice and mainly asked for availability between school year and summer time. Helps to know if you've done inventory and cashier experience and have worked for another B&N bookstore

Question 1
What were your responsibilities in your previous bookstore/retail job?? What didn't they need to train you on
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Barnes & Noble Education (Washington, DC) in Nov 2025
Interview
It was an online and remote interview process, and not conducted in person. There was no interaction with anyone at all. That is all I can remember about the interview process.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Barnes & Noble Education in Jun 2025
Interview
I applied online. The job posting stated that it required 7+ years of retail supervisory experience. I was asked during the application process about my required salary. Glassdoor's Salary Information said pay should be $60K to $90K.
I said $76K because that is what the store manager at the bookstore where I currently work makes.
I got an e-mail a month later asking me to interview.
The interview was fairly laid back. It was mostly the interviewer telling me about the company.
They mentioned flex holidays and then went on to spend 5 minutes talking about Mardi Gras, how much they loved it, and that they always come home with a bunch of beads.
As the 30 minutes was about to expire, they quickly mentioned that the pay was hourly and in the teens. I was speechless. That was less than I was making in my current role as an assistant manager at a college bookstore at a smaller college.

Question 1
This is a high stress position as many professors often want us to source out-of-date and out-of-print textbooks. Your job will be to convince them to go with a textbook from our database.
How would you handle a situation where the department head demands that you find textbooks that you cannot source?
