      Sales Representative Interview

      4 May 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      North Naples, FL
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Baer's Furniture (North Naples, FL) in May 2023

      Interview

I applied online and received a phone call to set up the interview. My interview was with two of the managers (the three of us were in the room at the same time). Online, the job description simply mentioned "Full-time Pay: $45,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year". But in-person, they revealed that it was a 100% commission job. Also, it took a 15-minute struggle session for them to finally disclose that, in my first year, the best I could hope for is about $40,000, then I'd gradually work my way up for several years; and their best salesperson who's been there for years is only making about $80,000 (those numbers are based on their answers to my questions). Further, when I asked if their salespeople steal sales from each other, without hesitation, one of the managers said, "Oh yeah! Definitely. That happens all the time." Seriously? Did you actually expect me to take the job after that admission? Overall, it was a bad experience since I had to waste several hours of my time applying, scheduling the interview, preparing for the interview, commuting to/from, listening to the two managers attempt to vaguely excite me about how much money I could make, then I had to ask several questions in order to find out it was actually a 100% commission sales job and the pay was not even close to the hype they'd been building. As an applicant, it felt like a classic "bait and switch" to me.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Of the 1-hour interview, I think they talked for 80% of the time, which is a giant red flag in any interview. It signals that they're desperate to convince you to take the job. I don't recall them asking too many questions. It's a very easy interview.
