I applied online. I interviewed at BT Group (London, England) in Jun 2026
Interview
The process consisted of an initial recruiter conversation, followed by a technical assessment and presentation. I was asked to build a Qlik Sense solution and present my approach and findings.
The assessment itself was engaging and allowed me to demonstrate my technical and analytical skills. However, one challenge was that the assessment required using software that generally requires a licence and is much easier to access if you are already employed by a company using the platform. As an individual candidate, obtaining access was unnecessarily difficult and added extra effort beyond the assessment itself.
Communication after the presentation was disappointing. The timelines initially provided were not met, and after investing significant time and effort into the assessment, I ultimately received a generic rejection email with no personalised feedback on my performance.
I fully appreciate that not every interview process results in an offer. However, for candidates who reach the assessment and presentation stages and invest considerable time overcoming technical and access hurdles, more transparent communication and constructive feedback would greatly improve the candidate experience.
I had two rounds of interviews. The first round I was interviewed by the Director of my team and a Data Scientist, the second round I was interviewed by a Lead Machine Learning Engineer who was more techie.
First round was some general questions about past experience plus a bit of technical questions.
Second round starts with a take home assignment, followed by a full blown technical interview.
