An interview was scheduled for. All was good, thus far.
Before the interview proper (I had a phone interview prior), I had three questions for the recruiter: what their weather policy was, if RTD regularly reached that area, and what the minimum pay rate I could expect going in there. The first two questions were answered, the third was not. Surprise, surprise.
Not only was the simple number question not answered (she said that would be during the interview, but I'm not wasting gas and time on an interview just to get there and they hit me with minimum wage), the recruiter told me that there were TWO positions, one with commission and one without. I have no idea what she was talking about, because the job listing that I applied for said nothing about any commission. This set my radar off that something wasn't right.
Perturbed that the recruiter wouldn't answer me, I decided to insist upon knowing exactly where in the $36k to $42k range my qualifications (many, many years in customer service, I am no newbie) would land me, as every less dollar an hour means thousands less a year. Unsurprisingly, she ghosted me. Unsurprisingly again, I ghosted the scheduled interview.
Now, I would have been willing to let that slide - Who doesn't deal with dodgy recruiters and management every once in a while? - but I happened to find a new job listing for that very same position show up as a nice Google ad. The listed wage is now for $14.50 - $17 an hour. That's $28,275 to $36k a year. For those keeping track, this is an insulting downgrade from the previously-listed $36k-$42k a year, which lends me to believe that it was a complete lie to begin with, and I was correct to not waste my time.
So, what's going on in the brains of Avalanche Harley-Davidson's HR department? The answer seems to be a glaring "Not a whole lot." They clearly still need the help, since they paid Indeed to run their job listing again, yet seem to believe that a) not answering questions about pay to prospective workers, the thing everyone works for (let's not act like anyone works for anything but it, please, that's so tired), and b) making the pay LESS is going to fix their employment problem.
Stay classy, Harley.
