Got an e-mail from Atlassian HR asking me to apply for an engineering role with their Tooling and Automation team. It had an attached questionnaire, however the e-mail addressed me with a completely different name, albeit suspiciously of the same race/ethinicity as mine. I replied back to reconfirm if the email was sent by mistake.The HR apologized saying it was a "typo". Giving her the benefit of doubt I filled up the questionnaire only to be told a few days later I didn't make the cut. There may be genuine reasons to reject me, however I also suspect Atlassian HR was just trying to meet their diversity quota and the team had probably finalized on the hire or had different hiring plans. Getting rejected is fine - we learn, adapt and move on. Feeling like I was "gamed" by the company to meet their internal diversity quota was very disappointing. Its hard to believe how such a mistake can be made. A "typo" is making spelling mistakes - not addressing someone by a completely different name. Also it seems like the HR was in a massive hurry - trying to fill up a quota - by picking up a list and firing off e-mails.
