I applied online. I interviewed at Arizona State University (Glendale, AZ) in Apr 2024
Interview
After applying for an advising position with ASU's New College, I was invited to an initial phone screen which lasted for 25 minutes with 7-8 questions. I was then invited to a follow up zoom interview which was 45 minutes in length (one of the questions was repeated from the initial phone screen). The second round interview questions were very negatively toned.

Question 1
They asked "what was the harshest feedback you've ever received?" "Tell us about a time you made a mistake." They didn't want to know what I had learned from the mistake or what I would do differently, they only wanted to know about the mistake. They asked for an example of "conflict/disagreement I had with a coworker and what was it regarding". They didn't ask about the outcome, how it was handled, what I learned, etc. The interview just had red flags all throughout. I went on to work for a different college at ASU; I learned that New College likes to chew their advisors up, has high turnover and that the culture in that college was not great. It seems as though they were trying to figure out how much bad a candidate could handle.
