Applied on Indeed and received an email from the internal recruiter promptly, requesting an introductory phone conversation to discuss my background and the opportunities available with Anova. A few days later, received another email inviting me to visit their office in downtown Chicago later that week to meet with their CTO, Kieran Athy. The meeting and discussion was pleasant, stretching to 2 hours from the scheduled 1 hour and consisted of hearing about the company's history, operations, and current interest in new hires, as well as stories from his academic years. A red flag that came up during the meeting was that they weren't looking to hire someone immediately, but rather at some point in the next couple months, and it came across as though they were simply getting a feel for the market of potential employees rather than seriously looking for someone. Indeed, despite committing a day of travel to this interview and subsequently emailing multiple times politely thanking them for their time and reaffirming interest in the role, no response or acknowledgement was received, leaving an extremely poor taste in my mouth for this CTO and company at large.
